News / Mount Saint Vincent University academic staff ratify collective agreement

Members of the Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association (MSVUFA) voted 93% in favour of ratifying a new contract on March 5 after more than three weeks on strike.

“This was the longest strike in MSVU’s history,” said Susan Brigham, MSVUFA President. “The members stood together and held the line until we got a new agreement that was fairer and more equitable than the previous agreement. How the members mobilized, stood on picket lines in all weather, and took up various strike duties was impressive. We were buoyed by the incredible support of students, staff, other unions, and community members. There is power in solidarity. We thank everyone near and far who supported the MSVUFA in our job action.”

The faculty association represents nearly 160 full-time faculty, professional librarians, and full-time lab instructors. The strike was just the second in the 35-year history of MSVU.
